    I purchased this bike a few weeks ago and there was no information available other than the same recycled product description on 50 different sites. So I figured it was important to add my 2 cents for potential buyers. I don't know what a $1,000+ ride feels like but for $300 I have gotten the road biking experience that I was hoping for.The bike is visually stunning. It is lightweight (comparatively speaking). It glides through the gears with relative ease and handles high torque sprints with with some integrity. Some assembly is required but very basic. Although, riders with less experience may want to take it to the local bike shop to fine tune brakes , gears, etc. My jury is still out on the tires especially in when leaning into a turn. At 6'2" I am comfortable on the Large version but probably wouldn't be if I were much taller. This was a major concern for me because of the ambiguity of "Medium" and "Large" listed. My estimation using other sources is: Medium - 5'5"-5'10"/30-32" inseam and Large - 5'10"-6'3"/32-34" inseam.All considered, I'm happy with this purchase. Maybe someday I'll graduate to that $1,000+ ride but this'll do for now.

    This bike is well made by the same company that makes Surly Bikes. While I considered the Surly Troll, I preferred the more relaxed geometry of the Civia Loring.This model, 2012, is changed from the prior year model. Instead of the SRAM internal hubs offered for the prior year model, Civia switched to the Alfine, which appears to be better rated. Another change from 2011 to 2012 was the exclusion of a Brooks B67 saddle.The frame also changed from 2011 to 2012, wherein the earlier model had 2 different frames. This model is a unisex frame offered in 3 sizes. The handle bars were also improved with swept back that angle out a bit and are more comfortable.So overall the changes from 2011 to 2012 are postive, except for the loss of the Brooks saddle. I will purchase a Brooks B67 to replace the stock Velo.Before I purchased this bike, I contacted Civia to inquire further and learned the Loring model is being discontinued. While I was not told why, I can only speculate that possible cost is an issue.However, anyone looking for a cargo/communter bike of quality should not miss this opportunity to buy this bike.

I got a great deal on this model at Walmart but haven't been able to ride it yet because the tires were flat. While it looks like a good bike and is very light weight it wasn't assembled very well and there is a problem with the Aero wheels that will cause them to go flat if not repaired first. The thick tapered wheel design calls for special tubes with extra long stems and the spoke nipples are recessed down inside deep holes. Since the spoke holes are exposed to the tubes they have to be covered by a strong rim liner that won't let the tube go into the holes and cause a blowout but that wasn't the case. The bike had flat tires when I got it home but since most of the bikes in the store had tires that were flat or nearly flat I didn't think too much of it until I tried to pump up the tires and there was a leak. The rim strip had broken, exposing the tube to the spoke holes and causing a blowout. I couldn't find any replacement tubes locally so I had to order some from ebay and I ordered new extra strong rim strips also since the original ones were too narrow to cover the holes completely even if not broken. The new rim strips are wider and fit snugly in the wheels so they won't shift. I cut up the original strip into 5" pieces and glued a piece over each set of spoke holes with super glue for extra reinforcement before I put on the new strips and I'm hoping the tubes hold air now.I found other problems with assembly too, the wheel axle nuts were so tight against the bearing the wheels wouldn't turn, the brake pads were not properly aligned and there was no lube on the brake mechanism, brake cables or shift cables.

    The bike is fairly nice, but has some significant issues that potential buyers need to be aware of before parting with $900 of their hard-earned money.I've put 250 miles on this thing so far, with (only) one major incident. The seat post broke off right where it comes out of the frame, which is not the nicest thing in the world. Fortunately, it broke off clean so there weren't any jagged edges to worry about, and the seller sent a replacement promptly.The broken seat post shows some stress marks on the inside, and seems to be quite flimsy. It's an alloy tube with a carbon fiber coating, and both the alloy and the carbon are too thin to rely on. The replacement tube is the same type that comes with the frame so I don't trust it. I've bought an alternate seat tube from Amazon that seems a lot more sturdy.The product description is very misleading and not even consistent with itself. The title "HASA Shimano 105 Carbon Flat Bar Road Bike" makes it sound like the bike has a carbon frame, but it's aluminum, as the small print at the bottom makes clear. The description says it has a "compact 50-34 crankset and corresponding 12-25 cassette" which is also untrue. It has 3 ring crankset and a 11-28 cassette, as the small print also says.The sizing indicated in the chart (one of the pictures) is not accurate. The frame is actually smaller than the chart indicates. Instead of the top tube in the 56 cm bike running 568.2 mm as the chart says (which would be 22.37 inches,) it measures about 21.5". This is one size off and makes a big difference in the fit.The components are good quality, mostly Shimano 105, middle of the road quality level. In the Shimano road bike parts world, the hierarchy from best to worst is: Dura Ace, Ultegra, 105, Tiagra, Sora. The seller claims the bottom bracket is Dura-Ace level, but I can't confirm that from Shimano's web site. It's certainly not an expensive part. There's nothing wrong with it, as far as I can tell, but it shouldn't be the main reason you buy this bike.The hubs are made by a Taiwanese company that's not one of the big names in cycling, but they seem to work well. They're held together by aluminum collars and set screws instead of pairs of nuts, so I expect they'll need more attention than mainstream hubs. The seat post, handlebars, and front fork all also no-name Taiwanese parts, and as mentioned the seat post is garbage. The front fork and handlebars haven't broken yet.The seat and pedals are throw-aways, but that' the norm in road bikes at this price point. I already had my own favorite seat and pedals and there wasn't any issue with swapping them over from my old bike.The bike shifts well, it's quite light, it's a good climber, and it's fast. Aside from the sizing and durability issues, it's not a bad buy.

    This sounded like a great idea, until I read all the details.A one year warranty on the frame does not sound like they expect it to last past one year. However, with the removable brake 'feature', more than a few frames may come to a bad end before the year is up.The requirements for a warranty claim, such as having the serial number that was on the box, even though the company has the record of you purchasing the bike. The sales receipt should have the serial number on it. That is standard practice in the business world.This whole warranty sounds like it was written by the company founders themselves. The requirements for a return will drive many people to an actual bike shop. Think of how much this is going to cost you if you just do not like how it rides. Return shipping, insurance and restocking fee - add it up.The removable brake idea is brilliant! Without that heavy and useless brake, this bike will really go - stopping is another matter.I commute to San Francisco where these fixie bikes started. The brakeless version has already injured quite a few people. Now there's a company making these insane bikes. It's a good thing ... NOT.

    This is my first fixie. I've now had it for a week and a half and love it. It's still on freewheel for the time being but will be flipping it soon. I added toe straps and removed the chain guard and reflectors. The bike is very light and very fast. I'm 5'7" so the 54cm fits me perfect! It looks great I will probably remove the brakes too after I get used to riding fixed. Its a great bike to break into the fixie world. And cost is much better than the others I was looking at. If I experience any problems I will update my review.

    Finding the Right Bike
    To really enjoy cycling, it's important to find a bicycle that works for you. Here are some things to keep in mind when you're in the market for a new bike:

    The Right Ride
    In general, bikes are broken down into three major categories:

    • Road and Racing Bikes--As a general rule, road and racing are built for speed and longer distances on paved surfaces. Thinner tires, lightweight 29-inch (700c) wheels, and drop bars that allow for a more aerodynamic position are the norm. Most road bikes, regardless of price, offer many gears for tackling both hilly and flat terrain.
    • Mountain Bikes--With their larger tires, hill-friendly gearing, and upright position, mountain bikes are very popular for all types of riding, both on pavement and off. Mountain bikes that are designed specifically for rugged trail use typically feature a suspension fork. Some may have rear suspension, as well. A quick change of the tires on any mountain bike--even one that you use regularly on trails--adds to its versatility and makes it a worthy street machine.
    • Comfort/Cruiser Bikes--For tooling around on bike paths, light trails, or for cruising a quiet beach-side lane, comfort/cruiser bikes are the ticket. With a super-relaxed riding position, padded seats, and limited or no gearing, these bikes are made for enjoying the scenery and having fun with the family.

    The Right Price
    A bike's price boils down to three essentials: frame materials, bike weight, and component quality and durability.

    • Entry-level--You'll find a wide range of comfort and cruiser bikes in this category, as well as some lower-end mountain bikes and road bikes. Most will have steel frames and components that are designed to last for several years with frequent use.
    • Mid-range--Bikes in this range may feature a lighter aluminum frame with mid-range components that keep performing after miles of use. If you're looking for a quality bike that is relatively lightweight and will stand up to abuse, this is the "sweet spot." Most serious commuter and touring bikes fall into this category, as do mid-range mountain bikes with a decent front suspension.
    • High-end--Racers and serious enthusiasts who expect lightweight, high-performance components will want to stick to this category. For road bikes, exotic frame materials (carbon fiber, titanium) and ultralightweight components can add thousands to the price tag. Mountain bikes in this class often feature advanced front and rear suspension technology, as well as components designed to handle lots of rugged trail action.

    The Right Size
    Fit is crucial for comfort, control, and proper power and endurance on a bike. Here are some basic bike fit tips:

    • Stand-over Height--To find out if a bike's overall height fits your body, measure your inseam. Next, determine how much clearance you'll need between your crotch and the top tube of the bike. For a mountain bike, you'll want three to five inches of clearance. A road bike should offer between one and two inches of clearance, while a commuter bike should have two to four inches. Compare the stand-over height for a given bike to your measurements (inseam + clearance) to determine the right bike height.
    • Top Tube Length--You can measure your torso to get a good estimate of proper top tube length. First, make a fist and extend your arm. Measure from the center of your fist to the end of your collarbone (the part that intersects your shoulder). Next, measure your torso by placing a book against your crotch with the spine facing up. Measure from the spine to the bottom of your throat (the spot between your collarbones). Finally, add the two measurements (arm length + torso length), divide the number in half, and subtract six inches. This is your approximate top tube length. Compare this number to a bike's posted top tube length. You can allow for about two inches longer or shorter, as most bikes can be adjusted via stem length/height and saddle fore/aft position to make fine adjustments to the fit.
    • Bikes for Women--Proportionally, women tend to have a shorter torso and longer legs than men. Bike makers design women's bikes that offer a shorter top tube and many comfort/cruiser bikes built for women may also provide more stand-over clearance.

    The Right Accessories
    When you make a bike purchase, don't forget these crucial add-ons:

    great road bike. handling is pin point and on top of that it is very very comfortable over long distance. i have 440 miles on mine over three weeks. i also race mine. the laguna pro is very competitive and it is one of the best bang for the bucks out there.
