What is not to like about this bike? I bought this bike a little over a month ago. The unique design of this bike frame is always a source of compliments and bike enthusiasts ask me daily to buy this bike off me. The bike arrived 2 days before the earliest estimated date, this bike shipped out of Torrance, CA where I assume is the receiving facility. The Amazon price is listed as $199.99 and the company's website sells these bikes for $398.Contents: The bike was 70% assembled as described. All I had to do was remove the packaging, install the seat, handlebars front wheel and pedals. All the tools necessary for assembly are included as well as a lengthy book on complete assembly. The bike also comes with front and rear reflectors and comes with a bell (probably my second favorite part of opening this box!).The bike: The frame is steel and is in the middle of the weight spectrum. I wouldn't call it light, but it's not as heavy as other bike's I've owned. The color is all painted. I believe the colored paints are a spray coat with lacquer, but don't take my word for it. The paint CAN be scraped with metal to metal contact such as where the handlebars contact the stem. A note for Black/Gold frame: the color of gold is not consistent throughout the bike. The wheels and handlebars are similar, but the cable casings, brake calipers and seat clamp are different shades of gold. The frame is 53cm. A properly fitted bike should have about 1-2" of clearance between the crossbar and your crotch. I am 5'4" with an inseam of 29" and it is a little tall for me, riding my crotch, but still comfortable to ride. If I were to buy a bike that fit properly, I would probably aim for a 50cm or 48cm bike. Tires are 700c x 28C, the larger hybrid tire - not the thin racing tire. Break pads are solid. Gearset is shimano. The bike has many standard parts that allow for customization. I will post pictures of a couple frames that I did some work on after the holiday.*****Most buyers probably won't read the booklet, but for your safety I must announce: PLEASE DON'T ATTEMPT TO RIDE UNTIL YOU HAVE PROPERLY TUNED THIS BIKE. The convenience of this bike being near-fully assembled does not negate the truth that adjustments should be made to get the best, safest ride out of your bike. Brake calipers need to be adjusted for even wear and stoppage, pedals fastened for safety, cable tension for proper shifting between gears, derailleur limits must be adjusted to prevent the chain rattling or jumping gears and the wheels must be trued. A local bike shop will do all of this for you for around $30 and you can save yourself a wreck on your brand new, shiny bike. If you're a DIY person, like myself, there are some excellent videos on YouTube that show you how to do these things yourself. Other reviews of this bike's sister model, the 714's, and the 701's have complained about things that should have been addressed before their first ride. The ride: The steel frame makes this a very strong, stiff bike. The result is a stable ride that is great for acceleration and handling. The downside is that the weight in the rear can be felt in longer rides. I commute daily 6-12 miles to school and have taken this bike on a few 20 milers; you can feel the weight at the end of the rides. The stock handlebars and stem allow the rider to ride upright with stability like a cruiser. The hybrid tires increase stability and allow the rider to attack all the various terrains of the urban landscape with ease. Gaps and cracks in the streets up to an inch are no problem for this bike. Just don't try to attack them at an oblique angle, or you will still lose control. The frame is a shorter frame (short in length, not height) and you may run into "toe overlap", but read the manual or google it for tips to avoid this. Since having my bike, I replaced the handlebars to ride lower and can hang with anyone with the 14 speeds equipped on the bike. The friction shifters are throwback and I love the clean look they give the bike. I couldn't be happier with this purchase! I would recommend everyone looking for an affordable road bike/cruiser should get this bike, but then I wouldn't be special anymore :P
